Communication skills for teachers

popular teacher

The young teacher, inexperienced and wanting to be liked by her students, has difficulty setting boundaries and engaging her pupils in the curriculum.

Effective teacher communication is essential in building student engagement. Teachers need to be aware of their voice tone, volume, facial expression and a full repertoire of communication skills to maximise their ability to engage students. Students today can be a highly sophisticated bunch and many teachers fail to read the subtext of a situation and can end in conflict with a student where a more experienced teacher may be able to harness the student’s power and keep the class engaged for the lesson.

Communicate to Engage is a course that explores teacher communication and assists teachers to better understand their students and more effectively deal with those challenging classroom interactions.
