Northern Territory Training

Back from another exciting and rewarding stint working with Response Training https://responsetraining.com.au in the Top End. It was wonderful to reconnect with some of the excellent indigenous and balanda (white folk ) carers who are completing their qualifications despite staff shortages and pressing family matters.

The quality of care in these places is second to none with many staff members being directly related to the elders but nonetheless  are connected through kinship groups. Many of the concepts covered  in the training are largely irrelevant yet cover them we must. The women looked at me in a puzzled way when I discuss respect and Duty of Care.  Often during a training session a participant will leap from the seat to take a cup of tea or aid a client.

Anita, one of the wonderful women who work at Maningrida Aged Care, recently won the title of NT Primary Health Care Person of the Year. She is in the photo above (right) with manager Karen.

I feel as if I learn more than I teach in these situations.
